We’re starting off summer now, but the end of spring found us many new instances of food truck regulation changes, debates, new talks and plans for healthy futures. Here are some of the main articles and happenings in the world of food trucks during the month of May.
East Coast Mobile Health Labeling – Boston’s Inspectional Services Department may create a system sometime soon to publicly rate the cleanliness and food safety of each restaurant and food truck, to be displayed via letter grade.
Hot Truck Moving Debate – questions are rung up as Ithaca, NY council considers whether to let one of their first mobile vendor, originally ‘grandfathered’ into a special allowances that it can stay in one location every night vs requiring to move, start moving wherever it wants.
Sacramento Rules Loosening – the City Council votes to ease food truck rules in an attempt to encourage more mobile meal vendors to operate in the city. This includes abolishing the previous 30-minute only parking rule.
Seattle’s First Charity Truck – local success Cheese Wizards, by the Saxbe brothers, are working on a new truck, ‘Cheese Wiches,” which will apply all proceeds and profits to serve comfort food to groups and families in need.
Arizona City Holding Off Decision – a proposed set of controversial truck regulations in Havasu has been pushed back as more public opinions and debate keep occurring.
Florida Truck Law Challenged – a Pensacola Council Member’s proposed Law to require permits for downtown, event, and other situations is currently being combated by the ‘Institute of Justice.’

Minnesota Truck Veto Overturned – Mayoral veto on ordinances regulating food truck’s ability to park near restaurants and in local parks has been fully overturned by the city council.
Colorado Schools Turn to Food Truck Lunches – in response to fickle teens, and in order to try and improve the attractiveness of healthy, farm-to-school options, Boulder schools are working with food trucks for lunches.
New York Brings in Sustainable Vendors – The Big Apple looks to revolutionize its streetfood vending system with new environmentally friendly food carts.
