One of the challenges of eating at your favorite food truck can be to simply figuring out when and where they’ll be serving up your favorite faire next. Due to the varying schedule of food trucks it can be tough for the operator to keep their schedule up to date, even for the most organized of operators. Fortunately, there are a variety of tools and resources that have come out over the past couple of years whose goal it is to help you track these roaming restaurants. We’ll highlight some of the most options in today’s post.
Roaming Hunger
If you happen to live in a large city like Los Angeles, Dallas, or a Detroit, RoamingHunger.com is an excellent resource for both discovering new mobile food vendors in your area, but also finding out where your old favorites will be vending. The unique aspect of RoamingHunger.com is that they will list the location of the food trucks on a map, along with specific details when they will be serving in the location (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner or Late Night). When you click on the little fork and spoon map icons, you will also see a name and description of the vehicle that will be serving at the particular location as demonstrated in the screenshot below. For those of you on the go, they’ve also got a great mobile app that you can download to your mobile device for free.
Food Trucks In
The website FoodTrucksIn.com is essentially the Google for mobile food businesses. At the time of this post, the website provides descriptions and location information for over 6,200 food trucks, trailers, carts, and other mobile food vendors. The website also lists vendors from over 1,000 different cities so even if you don’t live in a large city you can find a place to eat.
This website operates similar to major search engines like Google in that you can either the city, address, or zip code of your location and the search engine will discover food trucks located near you. Although the data provided by this service is less detailed than a RoamingHunger.com, they also provide information about a wider selection of cities than is supported by other websites. If you happen to be a mobile food vendor yourself, you can also create a free account to get your business listed on the website.
Google It
Although finding the actual location of a food truck on major search engines like Google is great. Finding specific hours of operation and vending times isn’t always easy. Although you can discover the food trucks that operate in your area easily here using searches like “Food Trucks Near Me” or “Food Trucks in City Name” you’ll still need to sift through the businesses website, Twitter or Facebook feed to figure out of they are serving lunch today.
While there are a lot of other available solutions for finding food trucks nearby, there aren’t any other tools available that we recommend. There are dozens of different apps that claim to track the food trucks in your area, but when we tried them they rarely had a significant number of trucks listed. Getting both accurate listings for trucks and a base of users is obviously a challenge that has only been successfully cracked by a handful of options right now.
